From December 26th to 28th, 2024, the Cambodia Pony Welfare Organization (CPWO) proudly organized the 10th training workshop as part of the Equine Infectious Disease in Cambodia Project: Educational Campaign and National Survey. The event took place at the Cambodian Country Club in Phnom Penh, bringing together village animal health agents from across the country to enhance their knowledge and skills in equine healthcare. The workshop was successfully conducted under the leadership of Ms. Van Porleng, President of CPWO, and was presided over by Ms. Heng Morany, Deputy Director of the General Directorate of Animal Health and Production. Their presence emphasized the importance of this initiative in improving the welfare of ponies and horses throughout Cambodia.

Expert-Led Training for Village Veterinarians

This three-day event featured Dr. Nop Rinda and Dr. Siraya Chunekamrai, who led the training sessions, sharing their extensive expertise on equine infectious diseases, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. The program focused on empowering village veterinarians with the latest research and practical skills to improve equine healthcare at the grassroots level. Attendees, including dedicated village veterinarians from various provinces and communities, actively participated in hands-on learning experiences. They engaged in discussions, case studies, and practical demonstrations, ensuring they could confidently apply their newfound knowledge in their respective communities.

Commitment to Equine Welfare in Cambodia

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to expand their expertise and reaffirmed their commitment to using their skills to help horses and ponies in need. The enthusiasm and dedication of these veterinarians are a testament to the growing awareness and importance of equine health and welfare in Cambodia. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making this event a success—the trainers, the attendees, and the leadership team who continue to work tirelessly to improve the lives of Cambodia’s equine population.

Looking Ahead

CPWO remains committed to advancing equine welfare through ongoing education, advocacy, and support for veterinary professionals. We look forward to future training sessions and continued collaboration with communities to ensure better health and care for Cambodia’s ponies and horses.
